Rockford Family Planning Foundation advances bodily autonomy and reproductive justice through programs rooted in community care. By bringing together education, direct clinical access support, and abortion provider training, we help make reproductive health care in Northwestern Illinois and the Midwest accessible in practice—not just in principle—today and for the future.
Sexual and Reproductive Health Outreach and Education Program
Purpose
To increase knowledge, reduce stigma, and empower individuals and communities across Northwestern Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin to make informed decisions about their reproductive lives.
Description
Through community-based outreach and education, we provide accurate, culturally responsive information on reproductive health, family planning, abortion care, and bodily autonomy. Our programming centers the lived realities of people in the Midwest—particularly those facing geographic, economic, or legal barriers to care.
Activities include public education campaigns, workshops, partnerships with community organizations, and the development of accessible educational materials. By addressing misinformation and fostering open, values-based conversations, this program strengthens reproductive health literacy and builds community support for reproductive justice.
Impact
Increased access to reliable reproductive health information
Reduced stigma around abortion and family planning
Empowered individuals able to navigate their reproductive options with confidence
Abortion Provider Residency & Training Program
Purpose
To partner with hospitals and clinics across the Midwest to strengthen a resilient, skilled abortion care workforce capable of meeting current and future regional needs.
Description
We invite local hospitals and clinics to collaborate with us in supporting the training, mentorship, and professional development of residents and emerging clinicians interested in strengthening their skills in abortion care. This program offers residency-style learning, clinical preceptorships, and continuing education opportunities designed to complement existing training pathways.
Through shared investment in provider education, we can address workforce shortages while supporting the long-term sustainability and accessibility of abortion care in the Midwest. Participating sites play a key role in shaping hands-on learning experiences that are responsive to real-world clinical and community needs.
The program emphasizes evidence-based care, trauma-informed practice, and reproductive justice values. Training opportunities are designed to support providers navigating complex legal and clinical environments, while fostering clinical confidence, leadership, and accountability to the communities they serve.
Impact
Expanded training opportunities for residents and clinicians seeking abortion care experience
Strengthened quality, continuity, and collaboration in abortion care delivery
A sustainable, values-aligned provider pipeline supported by regional partnerships
Clinical Services and Access Support
Purpose
To sustain and expand access to comprehensive, high-quality reproductive health and abortion services for people in the Midwest.
Description
We support the delivery of essential clinical services through grantmaking, fundraising, and operational support for reproductive health providers. This includes family planning and abortion care, as well as the infrastructure required to keep clinics open, staffed, and responsive in a restrictive and shifting legal environment.
Our work prioritizes regions with limited access, including Northwestern Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin, where patients often travel long distances or face significant logistical and financial barriers. By investing in clinics, staff, and systems of care, we help ensure that reproductive health services remain safe, timely, and patient-centered.
Impact
Sustained and expanded access to abortion and family planning services
Stronger clinical infrastructure and workforce stability
Reduced barriers to care for patients traveling from restricted states
